People and places photographed by Paul Simcock, an experienced and resourceful photographer based in San Francisco.
the (not so) new kid in town
The photography bug bit when given a Kodak Instamatic, my interest and ability grew through the school photography club and setting up a makeshift darkroom in an outbuilding at home.
After graduating high school I was fortunate to obtain a position as assistant in a prominent Sydney studio and got a thorough education in many areas of commercial photography, followed by a sojourn in London gaining valuable experience in portrait photography.
Returning to Sydney I photographed landscapes, industry and cityscapes, developing my eye for graphic composition and building a portfolio to show to designers and art directors. My break came when commissioned to document the redevelopment of Darling Harbour in Sydney. Through this I got to know all the national construction companies, architects and their design firms, which was a great start to a busy career as an annual report and corporate photographer covering such diverse subjects as architecture, mining, automotive, agriculture, healthcare, construction, finance, military and manufacturing.
Following this I worked in the UK with internationally recognized clients including the Bank of England, General Motors UK, Safeway UK, KPMG, and BP. I then joined The Image Bank and started working on regular stock productions, which led to my relocation to the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition to traveling the world on assignments and stock shoots, I built up my portrait and landscape portfolio, and attained Phase One Certified Professional status, all of which is taking me in a new and exciting direction.
Not bad for a working class kid from the North of England.
Experienced and resourceful, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
